DOUBLE CHAIN / 2008
Aluminium chain, nylon string
Photo: Susanne Hammer
The typical element of Susanne Hammer’s approach is transformation. She likes to use standard items of industrial mass-produced jewelry as a source material, digging down in the jewelry box of conventional tastes to dig up something new in the end, as when she interlocks two banal link chains – one of them more delicate, the other one coarse – so as to make them wearable as a double chain, or by balling up the coarse chain to create an archaic-looking pendant.
